Excel to Dashboard: Free Online Converter for Excel & CSV
Turn an Excel or CSV export into a dashboard in seconds: totals, charts and a short summary of what stands out. Free, no sign-up, and your file never leaves your browser.
This tool runs entirely in your browser. Toolcrow stores nothing — no input, no results, no tracking.
What this Excel to dashboard tool does
Drop an Excel or CSV file and get a working dashboard in one step. The tool reads your file, works out what each column is (a number, a date, a category or free text), picks the columns worth showing and builds a first dashboard for you: the key totals, a trend over time, breakdowns by category and a few plain-English notes about what stands out. No formulas, no pivot tables, no chart wizard.
From there you can change everything. Every number and every chart is a tile you can drag around, edit or remove, so the dashboard ends up looking the way you want it.
It works with CSV, TSV and Excel files (.xlsx and .xls). Around 10,000 rows runs smoothly on a normal laptop.
How to turn an Excel file into a dashboard
- Drag your file onto the tool, or click Choose file. No file at hand? Click Try sample data to see a full dashboard right away.
- The dashboard appears straight away: key totals at the top, charts below.
- Narrow it down: set a date range and filters in the sidebar to show only the rows you care about, for example one channel or last quarter. You can also give a single tile its own period.
- Move tiles by dragging them. A preview shows where a tile will land (green means it fits, red means the spot is taken).
- Add tiles with Add tile: a number, a chart, or an image such as your logo. Edit a tile to change the chart type, what it is grouped by and how it is counted.
- Pick a color theme for the whole dashboard.
- Download it: the whole dashboard as one HTML file you can email or open in any browser (with a button to print it or save it as a PDF), or a single tile as a PNG image for a slide or report.
Chart types and measures
- Charts: bar, horizontal bar, line, area, pie, donut, histogram and scatter, plus single-number tiles.
- Measures: for any number column you can show the sum, average, count, median, minimum or maximum, by category or over time.
- Filters and dates: show only certain values (say, two products) or a date range for the whole dashboard, and set a different period per tile.
How it decides what to show
The tool looks at every column and gives it a role. Numbers become measures, things to add up or average, like revenue or quantity. Text columns with a handful of repeated values become groups, like region or product. Date columns become a timeline. It then ranks the columns by how useful they are and builds a best-guess dashboard, preferring real totals over ID numbers and percentages. You can change anything it picks.
It also reads the way your numbers and dates are written. Exports from European tools often write 1.234,56 and 03-04-2024 (3 April); American ones write 1,234.56 and 04/03/2024. The tool looks at the whole file to see which style it uses, so your totals and timelines come out right either way.
Your data stays on your device
This tool runs completely in your browser. Your file is read on your own computer and is never uploaded, stored or logged by us. That makes it safe for sensitive exports such as sales figures, customer lists or financials. Everything the tool needs is built into the page, so it makes no outside requests at all and even works offline. Your last dashboard is kept in your own browser so it is still there when you come back; click New file to clear it, for example on a shared computer.
Make it your own
Every team looks at its own numbers. With your own copy of this tool, the dashboard starts the way your team needs it:
- your logo and your colors, on screen and on every download,
- your standard tiles, so this week's export becomes the same dashboard as last week's,
- your own name on the start screen.
Use the button on this page to make your own copy in your Toolcrow account. All the settings sit in one clearly marked block at the top of the code, so you can ask Claude or ChatGPT to change them for you ("use our logo, make the main color #0057b8 and always start with revenue by channel"), then upload the new version. Your copy is private until you choose to share it with your colleagues, by link or with a password, and you can let them send you feedback from inside the tool.
Good files to try
- Sales or order exports (date, product, region, revenue)
- Marketing reports (channel, campaign, clicks, spend)
- Survey results with a few multiple-choice questions
- Any export from your CRM, web shop, ad platform or accounting software
If the first row of your file holds the column names, you are ready to go.
Frequently asked questions
How do I turn an Excel or CSV file into a dashboard?
Drag the file onto the tool, or click Choose file. It reads your columns and builds a dashboard straight away, with key totals, charts and a short summary of what stands out. You can then move, edit and download it. No sign-up and nothing to install.
Is my spreadsheet uploaded anywhere?
No. The tool runs entirely in your browser. Your file is read on your own device and is never uploaded, stored or logged by us, so you can use it for sensitive or private data.
Which file formats are supported?
CSV, TSV and Excel files (.xlsx and .xls). The first row should hold your column names. For an Excel file the tool uses the first sheet. Around 10,000 rows works smoothly.
Does it work with European number and date formats?
Yes. The tool checks how your file writes numbers and dates, so 1.234,56 and 03-04-2024 (3 April) are read correctly, just like 1,234.56 and 04/03/2024 in American exports.
Can I edit and rearrange the dashboard?
Yes. Every number and chart is a tile you can drag to a new spot, edit or remove. You can switch the chart type (bar, horizontal bar, line, area, pie, donut, histogram or scatter), choose what it is grouped by and how it is counted (sum, average, count, median, min or max), add new tiles and change the color theme.
Can I share the dashboard with my colleagues?
Yes. Download the whole dashboard as one HTML file that anyone can open in a browser, print it or save it as a PDF, or download a single tile as a PNG image for a slide. If you want your team to work with the tool itself, make your own copy in Toolcrow and share it by link or with a password.
I get a new export every week. Do I have to rebuild the dashboard each time?
Drop in the new file and the tool builds a dashboard again, and for files with the same columns it picks the same tiles. Changes you made by hand are not carried over to a new file. In your own copy you can set standard tiles, so every export starts as exactly the dashboard your team uses.
Does it remember my dashboard when I come back?
Yes, on the same device and browser. Your last file, layout and color theme are kept in your browser and come back on your next visit. Nothing is sent to a server, so it is not synced across computers. Click New file to clear it.
Can I make a version with our logo, colors and standard tiles?
Yes. Use the button on this page to make your own copy in your Toolcrow account. The logo, colors, name and standard tiles are set in one block at the top of the code, which you can ask Claude or ChatGPT to change for you. Your copy is private until you share it.
Is it really free?
Yes. It is free to use, needs no account and shows no ads. It is one of Toolcrow's free tools.
